Who Is Saucy Lady? The BIOGRAPHY

Born and raised in Japan, Saucy Lady comes from a bi-cultural background, raised by a Japanese mother and an American father. Having a father who is a fanatical jazz record collector, she was surrounded by music 24/7 since infancy. Trained in classical piano and classical voice for many years, she has a solid foundation in music. Growing up, her musical interests spread beyond the world of jazz and classical music. Her love for other musical genres, such as Hip Hop, R&B, Soul, Funk, Boogie, Disco, Rare Groove grew to become a passion of hers.

Her training and exposure to a variety of music led her to pursue her studies as a music major at Mount Holyoke College. At Mount Holyoke, she was a radio DJ and an Urban Music Director at WMHC 91.5FM, while taking off-campus courses on music production. During these college years, she worked for musical promotional companies and worked as an Intern at Jive Records in NYC. After college, she received her Master's degree in Library Science from Simmons College, and took on professional positions as a Music Librarian at the Boston Public Library, and at The Boston Conservatory. During her spare time, she sang in a 6-piece cappella group and multiple Boston-area choruses such as the Boston Cecilia, Back Bay Chorale, Chorus Pro Musica, and sung in venues such as Fenway Park, Carnegie Hall, Sanders Theatre, Jordan Hall, the Hatch Shell, Ozawa Hall, and Symphony Hall.

Currently, she works full time at an e-Commerce company in Boston while pursuing her music career as a singer, song-writer and DJ. With her producer and DJ partners, she is also building a music and entertainment booking agency, Audio Chemists (
www.audiochemists.net).

As a DJ, she specializes in 70's-80's Soul, Funk, Boogie, Disco, Jazz Funk, and 90's Hip Hop and R&B. She DJs at bars, clubs, weddings, corporate events, retail stores, house parties, and on radio. Her sexy charm and her positive yet spicy attitude reflect in her musical selection, and always gets the crowd to groove.

As a recording artist, her first highly anticipated vocal album, entitled, "Diversify" just released in October 2011.

Production for her album is based in Komugiko Studios, led by the remarkable young producer from Japan, Yukihiro "U-Key" Kanesaka. Graduate of Berklee College of Music, he was awarded the 1st prize winner for "THE SOURCE National rap music competition" as an up-and-coming producer. He toured as a keyboardist with major rap artists such as Cee-lo (Goodie Mob), Maceo (De La Soul), Medusa, and other talents.  He's played on stage with Darren Barret (trp/ Elvin Jones), Giovanni Hidalgo (per), John Blackwell (dr/ Prince) and George Duke.   He is currently working with talents across the globe including tracks with Lisa Yamaguchi (Victor Entertainment Japan), soundtrack for Disney film, Beauty and the Beast, and production work for multiple other local and International acts.

Saucy Lady's vocal recordings reflect her diverse taste in music, with songs influenced by the Afro-beat sounds of Fela Kuti to the new generation bossa-nova sounds of Bebel Gilberto. A touch of production influences from artists range from styles of Quincy Jones, Mark de Clive Lowe, Dam Funk, Pete Rock, J-Dilla, Jamiroquai, Herbie Hancock, Sun Ra, Don Cherry, D'Angelo, to Chic.

In addition to her current album project and regular DJ performances, she can also be found featured in recordings and live performances of some local hip hop acts, such as Wasted Talent (
www.myspace.com/nabowasted) and the Frankensteez project ( www.facebook.com/frankensteez).

Saucy Lady - Diversify

$9.99

"Diversify" is the debut album by Boston's Saucy Lady, and it truly lives up to its name with character and attitude. A bi-cultural Japan native, the singer/songwriter is also a DJ, whose style is reflected in the eclectic nature of the album. It opens with "Who is Saucy Lady," produced by DJ Pforreal and mixed/arranged by Prince Paul. The album follows with a melting pot of disco, hip hop, house, afro-beat, even bossa nova. With a voice both soothing and sultry, Saucy Lady envelops the listener in a tapestry of feel-good grooves and jazz funk in the vein of Slave and Patrice Rushen. However, this is no mere throwback to a timeless era, but rather a sophisticated distillation of evocative sounds that will appeal to modern tastes.
